Novogrudok - the centre of Novogrudsky area with the population of 30,8 thousand people The Novogrudsky area is located in the east part of Grodno region and occupies territory of 1,7 thousand sq. km. Borders with Ivevsky, Lidsky, Djatlovsky and Korelichsky areas of Grodno region and Stolbtsovsky area of Minsk region. The Novogrudsky area settles down mainly on the Novogrudsky height, partially in Nemansky lowland. On it proceeds the river Neman with its inflows Valovka and Kremushevka. General information about Novogrudok: Novogrudok is considered one of the most ancient cities of Belarus. Time of its basis historians carry to Õ century when Novogrudok was residence of princes of Grand duchy Lithuanian and the large trading-craft centre. Throughout centuries the city was exposed to numerous attacks of mongolo-tatars, crusaders, Crimean Tatars. In 1795 the city has been attached to the territory of the Russian empire, and in 1939 has been included in structure of BSSR. The city occupies favourable geographical position attractive to tourists from Belarus and other countries and it is located all in 150 km from Minsk, Vilnius and Grodno, and in 160 km from the city there passes border with Poland. Transport communications in Novogrudok: In 22 km from the city there is the railway station Novoelnja of the line Lida - Baranovichi.
